When the coffee flower blooms, it’s a beautiful white flower. Abyssinia is an ancient name from this area of Ethiopia. This name pays homage to both.

Our Abyssinian Flower coffee is sourced from the Uraga wash station, which is located in the Guji Zone of Oromia and is owned and operated by Haileslassie Ambaye. Nearly 900 producers living in the community of Haro Wachu help produce this amazing coffee.

Producers deliver ripe cherries to the Uraga wash station where they are sorted and immediately placed on raised beds and dried over a period of 15 to 20 days. Raised drying beds are carefully constructed to ensure proper air circulation and temperature control for an optimal drying process. Cherries are also turned regularly on the beds to prevent damage.

Once dried, the beans are transported to Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, to be milled and prepared for export.

Grind Types Explained
Why Does Grind Type Matter?

Grind size affects the extraction rate of the coffee and therefore affects the flavor of the final brew. Because of the water flow rate and pressure variations between brew methods, different grind sizes suit different brew methods better. You'll want to pick the right one for optimum flavor.

Tasted decent, but 3 weeks (to the day) old when I got it.

I have a relative who only gets his coffee from Maps. I told him that I would give it a try. He told me which ones he liked. He said he never tried Abyssinian Flower before and it's pretty popular. I took that as Maps must roast it often, but apparently not. I usually only get my coffee from roast-to-order places, because I know how downhill coffee can taste after the freshness has waned. I received my order in just a few days (I'm local, but disabled and don't get out much) So, while I thought the coffee tasted decent, it wasn't the best coffee I got in my order, but it was definitely the oldest and now I'm forced to drink it up if I want it as fresh as possible.

Best roasted beans

We really like Maps coffee. Our favorite is to blend Ethiopian and Island Of Gold For our morning eye opener. Maps provides the best roasted beans and we grind them at home for maximum freshness and taste. Its well worth it to make the drive from Topeka to Lenexa to get the best coffee around!
